Janelle y yo pensábamos que la esclavitud había sido abolida hace mucho tiempo. Ana Quetzalli no está de acuerdo. Nos tiene trabajando 24 horas al día los siete días de la semana. A pesar de todo, nuestra relación laboral es excelente.

Janelle and I thought that slavery had been abolished long time ago. Ana Quetzalli doesn't agree. She has us work 24 - 7. Despite all, our working relationship is great.

Bienvenida

Hoy, octubre 30, 2008 a las 12:40 hora de Buenos Aires, nació nuestra beba.
Pesó 4.150 kgs.
¡¡¡Mamá y nena están bien.... y yo también!!!
Tentativamente se llamará Ana Quetzalli. Pero tenemos que hacer algo de papeleo.

Welcome

Today, October 30th, 2008 at 12:00 Buenos Aires time, our baby girl was born.
She weighed 9.13 lbs.
Mom and baby are fine.... I am too!!!
We will probably name her Ana Quetzalli. We still have some paperwork to do.

Green pis & Green pup / Green pee & Green poop

Seguimos esperando y el bebé no llega. El tiempo para votar se ha terminado. 45% cree que es nene y 55% que es nena. Solo nos queda seguir esperando.

El siguiente paso es por tratar de adivinar el día en que nacerá. Según el doctor es para el 26 de octubre. Janelle dice que el 28. Muchas personas opinan que es antes porque es el primer bebé.


Así que se abre una nueva etapa de apuestas ¿cuándo nacerá? ¿a qué hora? Aquellos que acierten, recibirán un chocolate o un puro*, como dicta la tradición. Los que no... tendrán la fabulosa oportunidad de ayudar a este futuro padre inexperto.

La situación es que aunque soy conciente de cuidar la ecología, me causa algo de alergia el "green-pis" del bebé... y ni hablar del "green-pup", o del color que sea.

Y todos vivieron felices.

* El puro será entregado sólo a las personas que sean mayores de edad, o a cualquier menor que prometa esperar. :o)



We are still waiting and the baby does not arrive. Time for voting is up: 45% believes that is a baby boy and 55% that it is a baby girl. We can only wait to see.

The next step is to try to guess the day that the baby is born. According to our doctor the due date is October 26. Janelle thinks is the 28th. Many people think that it will be before that because it's the first baby.


So we are now opening a betting time: When will the baby be born? At what time? Those who guess correctly will get a piece of chocolate or a cigar*, as tradition dictates. Those who guess wrong... will have the great chance to help this future and unexperienced father.

The thing is that even though I'm conscious of the need to care for ecology, I am alergic to baby's "green-pee".... and even worse to baby's "green poop", or any other colour.

And everybody lived happily ever after.

* The cigar will be handed only to those who are old enough to smoke... or to younger people who promise to wait. ;o)

Garantía - Guarantee

Estábamos viendo un documental de lo que viven los adolescentes. Janelle se preocupó mucho y me preguntó qué ibamos a hacer cuando nuestro bebé fuera un adolescente. Después de pensarlo un rato sugerí que le tatuáramos una garantía en una pompi. La garantía diría algo más o menos así:

"Garantía: En caso de no quedar completamente satisfecho con este
producto durante los primeros 20 años,
lo podrá devolver en cuarlquiera de nuestras sucursales,
sin importar el estado en el que se encuentre,
ni las razones o circunstancias por lo que lo quiera devolver."

Como el bebé no recordará cuándo fue tatuado, será más fácil que entienda por qué puede ser potencialmente devuelto.... es probable que en ese entonces también él se alegre de ser devuelto.




We were watching a documentary on what adolescents go through. Janelle got really worried and asked me what we were going to do once our baby grew into an adolescent. After thinking about it for a while, I suggested we tatoo a guarantee on the baby's bottom. It would say something like this:

"Guarantee: In the event of not being fully satisfied with this product
during its first 20 years, you can return it to any of our branches.
It does not matter its state or your reasons for returning it"

As the baby won't remember when he got tatooed, it will be easier for him to understand why he can be potentially returned... it is also possible that then he will be happy to be returned.

El Grito de Independencia - Independence Party

No dejamos pasar la oportunidad y nos volvimos a juntar con nuestros amigos de México, Argentina y de algunos otros lugares para celebrar el grito de independencia. Lo hicimos en dos partes.



La primera fue el sábado 13 en la casa de nuestros amigos Julián y Fiona, en donde hubo hubo mariachis, tequila y lo mejor ¡¡¡comida mexicana!!! Hasta tortillas, que son tan difíciles de conseguir aquí.


Cantamos, comimos, bebimos y la pasamos muy bien. El domingo regresamos por el recalentadito.


La segunda fue el lunes 15. La embajada invitó a la comunidad mexicana para dar un grito más elaborado, pero sin comida. Lo cual solucionamos con una visita a una "taquería" después del grito.

Solo nos faltaron los fuegos artificiales, pero no se puede tener todo.

We didn't let this chance pass by and we got together with our friends from Mexico, Argentina and some other places to celebrate our independence. We did it in two parts.


The first one was on Saturday the 13th in the house of our friends Julian and Fiona. There were mariachis, tequila and best of all... Mexican food!!! Even tortillas that are so hard to get here.


We sang, ate, drank and had a great time. Sunday we went back for leftovers.


The second part was on Monday the 15th. The embassy invited the Mexican community to the celebration. It was in a much larger scale, but there wasn't any food. We solved this problem by stopping at a Mexican restaurant after the party.


I missed the fireworks, but one can't always have it all.

Un cumple más - Another b-day

A pesar de que tenía mis dudas acerca de festejar mi cumple, Janelle y Noé me convencieron. Así, de un día para otro se organizó todo un día con amigos.

Alrededor de mediodía fuimos a la casa de Tito y Noé en donde jugamos, comimos y en general la pasamos muy bien. Más tarde regresamos al departamento y por la presión de casi todos mis amigos vimos el video del bebé. El objetivo era intentar descubrir si es hombre o mujer. Como nadie lo pudo hacer, comenzaron las teorías de la forma de la panza, el anillo frente a la panza, la alineación de las almohadas, etc.

Fiesta - Party

Realizamos un recuento de los votos y sometimos a Janelle a la prueba de la cuchara y el tenedor. Para los que no la conocen, se coloca una cuchara en una silla y un tenedor en la otra. Se tapan con un cojín y la embarazada se sienta en uno de ellos. Dicen las lenguas populares argentinas, que la cuchara es hombre y el tenedor es mujer.

Torneo - Tournament

Para cerrar con broche de oro, el domingo fuimos a la Feria de Mataderos y luego los hombres nos fuimos a un partido de fut. No ha jugar, sino a ver, je, je.

Terminamos cansados, pero muy contentos.

En el departamento - In the apartment

Even though I had some doubts about celebrating my b-day, Janelle and Noé convinced me to do so. Thus, from one day to the next we got together with our friends.

Around midday we went to Tito and Noé's house where we played, ate and had a great time. Later on we went to our apartment and due to my friends' pressure we watched the video of the baby. The goal was to try to find out whether the baby is a boy or a girl. As noone could do it, theories about it started: the shape of the mother's belly, the ring in front of it, the alignment of the pillows, etc.

La prueba de Janelle - Janelle's test

We voted and had Janelle take the test of the spoon and the fork. For those who don't know how it works, a spoon is set on a chair (under a pillow) and a fork on another (also under a pillow... a different pillow), then the pregnant mother comes and sits on one. Pupular belief in Argentina says that the spoon is for a boy and the fork for a girl.

Feria de Mataderos

On Sunday we went to the Feria de Mataderos and then the boys went on to a soccer game. We didn't play, we watched, ha, ha.

We ended very tired, but very happy.
