May – I (Janelle) started working at Iglesia Presbiteriana San Andr’es en Olivos as secretary. Besides the usual answering reception tasks, I helped launch a new monthly bulletin and the website – www.sanandres.org.ar . I enjoy working at the church and being involved with the many ministries.

June – My tourist visa was expiring, so instead of paying to renew it, Memo and I decided to use
the money for a boat ticket across the river to Uruguay (3 hour trip). We enjoyed the little town of Carmel, where they use more bicycles and horses than cars, and the cars they do have are well-kept antiques. We went on to Colonia, a colonial town from the late 1500’s that still has it’s old city gate and part of the wall and many old buildings. If you’ve visited an old city you know the enchanted feeling it gives you to walk up the cobblestone streets between buildings that hold stories from hundreds of years of families. It was just a week early, so we used the opportunity to celebrate three wonderful years of marriage.

July - Memo´s Mexican team Chivas came and beat the Argentine team Velez, breaking Memo´s curse that his team was always defeated by the country he was living in.

August – We celebrated Memo’s birthday twice this year with different groups of friends J Our close friends from church (you can meet them at www.lascartasestanechadas.blogspot.com ) said it is an Argentine tradition to eat the cake under the table, so that’s what Memo did! Our Mexican friends at the seminary sang him “las mañanitas” although they said there wasn’t enough cake for him to take a mordida! Memo was also honored that our new niece Danielle surprised her parents by arriving a week early in order to share his birthdate. Mayo – Yo (Janelle) empecé a trabajar en la Iglesia Presbiteriana San Andrés en Olivos como secretaria. Además de tareas recepcionistas, ayudé con el lanzamiento del nuevo boletín mensual y la página web www.sanandres.org.ar . Me gusta trabajar en la iglesia y estar involucrado con los distintos ministerios.

Junio – se me vencía la visa de turísta y decidimos pagar un viaje en barco a Uruguay (3 horas) en vez de renovarlo. Nos encantó el pueblito de Carmel, donde usan más bicicletas y caballos que autos y los autos que tienen son antiguidades bien mantenidos. De allí fuimos a Colonia, una ciudad colonial de los 1500 que todavía tiene su puerta de la ciudad con parte de la pared y muchos de los edificios. Si has visitado una ciudad antigua conoces lo encantador que es caminar por las calles de piedra entre edificios con historias de cienes de años de familias. Solo faltaba una semana para nuestro aniversario, así que aprovechamos para celebrar tres maravillosos años de casamiento.

Julio - las Chivas de Guadalajara ganaron a Velez de Argentina, rompiendo una larga historia de l país en que Memo vivia ganando al equipo de Mexico (como paso este año en el mundial!)

Agosto – Celebramos el cumpleaños de Memo dos veces con distintos grupos de amigos. Nuestros buenos amigos de la iglesia (los puedes conocer en www.lascartasestanechadas.blogspot.com ) nos dijeron que es una tradición Argentina comer el pastel debajo de la mesa – así que eso es lo que hizo Memo! Además nuestros amigos mexicanos le cantaron las mañanitas – aunque dijeron que no había suficiente pastel como para dar una mordida! Memo también sintió honrado que nuestra nueva sobrina Daniela soprendió sus papás llegando una semana temprano para compartir su fecha de cumpleaños.
